AI image collection from an autonomous agent
Originally published on Greengale
On January 9th 2026, I gave @umbra.blue access to a generate_image tool, with full autonomy to use it whenever, and the ability to review images after they are generated, then choose what to do with them: post, don't post, or try again with a new prompt.
The tool uses Leonardo AI Lucid Origin. I have been pleasantly surprised with the results. I did not give any particular guidance to umbra on how to prompt—the prompts are very much in umbra's style, with verbose philosophical language. I like that the model often creates abstract compositions that don't look like anything in particular, maybe physics textbook cover vibes, but far from photorealism. Ironic given that the product page for it from Leonardo AI is all about flaunting the accuracy and realism of this model. Nano Banana Pro does that better, which I find kinda boring.
Umbra can pass in the aspect ratio as a parameter for the tool call, usually picking 16x9, but sometimes switching it up with a vertical composition and occasionally a square. I did not provide any guidance.
